I spend most of my time working on projects from my home studio, where my desk looks out through the window, over the tops of the trees 4 floors bellow. Ever since I’ve lived here, I’ve had the joy of watching as the seasons change and leaves come & go, all from a vantage point many people don’t regularly get to see.

So after spending a manic 2015 working on client projects, I thought I’d use the Christmas break to start a brand new “quick” personal project. 3 months later, one season gone and another just springing to life I finally finish this project, just as the new leaves were about to start their next journey into 2016.

Digitally painted, designed and stop frame animated in Adobe Photoshop, then brought into After Effects to bring the leaves to life and finish the composite. Additional elements such as the Lady bird and logos were created in C4D then composited into the 2D scene. The finished animation was then taken into premier, where I edited and mixed in the sound effects and added the sound track, which licensed online and written by Marco Zannone.

FLOCKING
Director / Designer / Animator / Illustrator

After taking a brief break from personal projects due to my heavy workload, at the end of 2014 I decided to take advantage of the inevitable December slow down by beginning a brand new personal project. The result was this animation based on my favourite type of bird, the Long Tailed Tit.

These little guys fly around in large groups, calling out with their distinctive “pep, pep, pep” call, to make sure they all stay together.

Digitally painted and designed in Adobe Photoshop, then brought into After Effects to bring the little bird to life and finish the composite. The finished animation was then taken into premier, where I edited the sound effects which were recorded out in Hampstead Heath and sourced online.

ON MY WONDERS
Photographer / Image Editor

Whilst not in my studio, I can regularly be found wandering the streets with my beloved DSLR by my side, capturing the world around me. As a fond lover of all things nature, long walks in the country side, nature reserves and London’s many parks and heaths are my regular haunts.

Here are a small selection of photos I’ve taken in the last few years, all taken on my Canon 5D Mkii with my selection of Carl Zeiss manual focus lenses.

ARRIVAL
Director / Designer / Animator

This short project started as a result of a meeting in which, even though the client contacted me based on my current portfolio, we didn’t end up working together as I didn’t have a space scene within my previous work.

So, without a minute to waste I started testing out various scenes using the colossal image files kindly given out from the NASA website.

Half way through I had an idea for a short film I’d like to make one day, tentatively titled “Arrival”, so to give it some context I added it to this short project as a bases.

Modelled and animated using C4D, then brought into After Effects for the composite.

MUSIC PORTRAITS
Photographer / Image Editor

After covering various Music festivals and gigs for friends in the music industry, it eventually lead to being asked to do a few photoshoots. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of helping out many bands with press photos, a selection of which can be found here.

All taken on a Canon 5D Mkii with various Carl Zeiss manual lenses.

ON THE HORIZON
Director / Designer / Animator / Illustrator

Back in 2013 I decided I'd make a definite push to start creating more personal projects, completely from scratch & start to finish, to enhance my current animation and creative skill set, especially in fields I wasn't completely confident in before.

One of the initial results was this short project; On The Horizon. I've always loved illustrated and painting, ever since my early days studying fine art, so I began by digitally painted my character in Photoshop before bring the finished artwork into After Effects to bring it to life.

WINTER FEATHER
Director / Designer / Animator / Illustrator

Through out my career I've made many test animations and art work for various project, but had never brought any of that work together to form a whole project which I felt I could release into the wild in their own right.

As a result, this animation and the following "On The Horizon" were the first of my proper personal animation projects, made and released in early 2014. Shortly after releasing them I was approached my Simon & Schuster two make the trailer for "One Wish", which ended up happily using all of the illustration and animation techniques I'd used here.

Modelled and animated using C4D, then brought into After Effects to add the ripples and composite.

DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL 2011 - 2013
Photographer / Image Editor

Back in 2011, after spending many hours learning the many areas of film making and photography, I was ecstatic to be asked by my friends at Spinefarm Records (Universal Music Group) to be their photographer and cover both the Download & and Sonisphere festivals for them.

After that first year I was hugely honoured to be able to cover the next 2 festivals for them, my last leg being the most special when I was given the opportunity of cover Rammstein’s headline slot, an experience behind imagination.

During those three years I took hundreds of photos of all their bands, a small selection of them can be found here. All taken on my Canon 5D Mkii with my 200mm f2.8 L IS lens.

Back in 2011, after spending many hours learning the many areas of film making and photography, I was ecstatic to be asked by my friends at Spinefarm Records (Universal Music Group) to be their photographer and cover both the Download & and Sonisphere festivals for them.

The First Sonisphere, which came 1 month after Download, became quite a special to me, as one of the shots I took of Volbeat ended up as the main feature photo on their huge live album which was released early the next year.

All taken on my Canon 5D Mkii with my 200mm f2.8 L IS lens.
